Green Harbor River Project

The Green Harbor River in Marshfield is currently being studied to observe the effects of the tidal restriction on the health of the river.  A joint effort is being made to clean up the river and restore tidal flow.  A salt marsh restoration feasibility study is also underway by the Town of Marshfield and Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management.  Whitman-Hanson students have been involved in some of the research with Mrs. Bianchi through grants from Community Service Learning, Whitman-Hanson Educational Foundation, and Bridgewater State College.  Students from Cohasset, Pembroke, Halifax, and Carver have also participated during summer months for community service hours, experience in scientific research and for course credit.  The Student Center for Coastal Research in Cohasset provides opportunities for students to become actively involved in field research.  Whitman-Hanson Regional High may provide science credits during the summer of 2009 for selected students who take a Coastal Ecology class.  Talk to your guidance counselor and Mrs. Bianchi for further information.

The purpose of this web site is to share data on the Green Harbor River for all interested parties and to further the knowledge of the people of Massachusetts on the importance of clean rivers.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the monitoring project should e-mail Laurie Bianchi at gharborriver@aol.com

Summer schedule will be sent upon request.
